Royal Ceylon Gunpowder Green Tea Description:
This unique gunpowder comes out of Sri Lanka, but manufactured in the Chinese tradition. These tight hand-rolled leaves carry the full-bodied flavor expected from the Dimbula region of Sri Lanka. This tea was first produced in the late 1800's due to the deterioration of British and Chinese relations.

Royal Ceylon Gunpowder Green Tea Significance:
Gunpowder is produced very much the same as other green teas, however, after steaming it is rolled very tightly into small pellets that appear to be the shape of gunpowder used in old muskets.
Gunpowder tea can quickly expand during steeping to many times their original size. Our Royal Ceylon Gunpowder green tea comes from one of the best regions in Sri Lanka in the Dumbula region. Dimbula is known for excellent, full-bodied, flavor.
Royal Ceylon Gunpowder is manufactured in very small quantities due to the labor required for making this green tea. The tight rolls, however, allow this tea to store well for a longer period of time than most.
- Step 1:
- Add boiling water to mug and allow the water to cool to 170°-185° or simply wait 2-5 minutes.
- Step 2:
- Steep 1 flat tsp or 3-4 grams of tea per 8 oz of water.
- Step 3:
- Steep for 3-5 minutes. Green teas often have substantially different character depending on the time and temperature used for steeping so experiment with water throughout the range. Try 2-3 steepings. Great candidate for cold brewing tea for a summer
