Gyokuro Tea Description:

Premium Gyokuro, also known as Jewel Dew, is uniquely shade-grown and hand-picked to bring out a sweet taste to this exceptional Japanese green tea. Growing this tea under shade for the last few weeks brings an increase in chlorophyll, theanine, and other compounds which produce a sweeter taste. Gyokuro is one of many great Japanese tea varieties.

Japanese Green Tea

Gyokuro Green Tea Significance:

Also known as Jade Dew or Jewel Dew, Gyokuro is an interesting Japanese tea that is produced through intentionally shading the tea for about three weeks to produce a darker leaf. The unique harvesting process prevents amino acids in the leaf from converting to catechins and has significantly higher amounts of chlorophyll. Gyokuro is harvested once a year to maintain quality. Plucking consists of the three youngest leaves of the flush.

Our Gyokuro Green Tea comes from a Globally Important Agricultural Heritage System (GIAHS) as recognized by the United Nations Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO). The distinction is due, in large part, to the practice of Chagusaba or "tea grass fields" used in the production of this tea. The Chagusaba method uses native grasses of the Shizuoka Prefecture, cut and spread around tea bushes to reduce weeds and fertilize the plants. The method provides a sustainable method which also enhances the flavor of our Gyokuro.

Step 1:
Add boiling water to mug and allow the water to cool to 125°-140° or wait about 10 minutes.
Step 2:
Steep 2 tsp or 6-8 grams of tea per 8 oz of water.
Step 3:
Steep for 1 and a half to 2 minutes. For additional steepings increase the time a bit each time.

I am a tea drinker and Japanese tea is my favorite. I have been ordering Gyokuro from Dominion tea for almost 4 years now. It is always great quality. I have also tried many different brands like Teavana, Adagio tea etc and I have been super happy with Dominion tea. Highly recommended!

I drink green tea religiously. Seriously, I drink 3-4 12onz cups everyday. I love green tea and I like to treat myself with the finesses of the green tea I could possibly find. Gyokuro is my favorite. I have been ordering Gyokuro from Dominion Tea over 2 years now. Love it.
