Kosabei TGFOP Description:

This specialty tea out of Kenya is, quite simply, an outstanding tea.  It is at once light and profound, gentle and astringent with notes of malt, currant and moist earth.  Like all good Kenyan teas this tea stands well on its own or can hold its flavor with milk.

Adventurous TeaIngredients:

Kenyan Black Tea

Kosabei TGFOP Significance:

Kosabei TGFOP or "Tippy Golden Flowery Orange Pekoe" is a high grade Kenyan black tea. Kosabei estate is considered to be one of the best Kenyan teas. One of the early tea growers in Assam, George Williamson, had significant success in India before starting an operation in Kenya. Instead of producing CTC teas like most others in the region, Williamson's produced high quality loose leaf tea using orthodox production techniques brought from the Assam region of India. The region continues to produce outstanding loose leaf teas as well as CTC teas.

Step 1:
Preheat mug with boiling water, discard and refill.
Step 2:
Steep 2 flat tsp or 3-4 grams of tea per 8 oz of water.
Step 3:
Steep for 3-5 minutes as desired. Experiment with slightly cooler water or shorter steeping times. Try one additional steeping if desired.

I was forced to give up my beloved morning coffee due to an acid issue. Kenyan Kosabei has a nice deep malty flavor that brings me as close as any tea can to that pleasure of a rich cup of fresh coffee.

I have tried hundreds of teas and am a bit of a tea snob, preferring black teas that have a smooth taste of the ACTUAL tea without artificial additives, herbs or flavors. I prefer loose leaf because tea bags also have "bad" ingredients (especially the plastic ones!) and they can alter the flavor. I appreciate the tea for it's OWN flavor and this one of my favorites.

  • A marvelous black tea.

For me, Kosabei TGFOP defines a cup of black tea.. and my source before now was a retail tea shop in a large city at almost twice the price! I am delighted to find that Dominion Tea offers the exact same product at an affordable, tea-lover's price. Quick shipping and very good packaging, too. I'll be ordering more, and trying others. >Many thanks, Dominion Tea<
